Day 6 and I felt like Dory!

Have you seen that movie, the one where the blue fish continues to say Just keep swimming... ?

This card was my keep swimming moment of the week, for sure!

I embossed the image on white bristol smooth cardstock. I had envisioned water coloring these flowers with sepia tones. I did what I thought would have accomplished just that but, it did not look nice at all. I almost threw this card panel away. I never do that, but I almost did.

I got up from the craft desk and did some housework and went back to it. I figured I could splatter brown and gold splats on the image and maybe that would help. NOPE, still hated it.

I got out a stamp set that has splatters and swatches you can stamp so it looks random but it really is controlled... I stamped that on the image. STILL HATED IT!

I left it alone for a little while and did more housework. When I went back to my desk I actually picked it up to throw it away and then decided, to ink blend over it because maybe it would help. I thought it couldn't hurt. I was ready to throw it out anyway. So I ink blended distress oxide inks over the entire panel, image and all. AND... it looked like leather. I actually sort of liked it.

I decided to stamp a sentiment and then use those zig clean color real brush markers to add some deeper color inside the sentiment letters.

I layered the panel onto a piece of gold tonic cardstock and then onto dark brown.

I love how this ended up. It looks so regal and beautiful and stunning and warm and I was so excited to share it. 

Moral of the story for day 6 of this coloring challenge, keep swimming, that blue fish has it right.

Clearly Besotted Tulips Wish Mom Happy Birthday

This soft card was created for a dear friend's mother. I was given free range to create a card as long as it wished her mother Happy Birthday and this is what I came up with.

I love these Tulips from Clearly Besotted's stamp set Friends Forever and try to use them as often as possible because Clearly Besotted does flowers right. I stamped the image on Neenah Solar White 80# Cardstock and colored it with Copic Markers ( R12, R32, Y00, YG21, YG25 & YG17). Then I die cut it using the coordinating die.

While I had my die cutting machine out I also cut the main panel out of some MFT Watercolor Wash Brights 6x6 in the aqua shade with a Gina Marie wonky stitched rectangle die and the word Mom from a SSS die set from both black and Neenah White I colored to match with the R Copic Markers.

I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment from Lawn Fawn's Let's Bokkeh stamp set onto black cardstock using Ranger's white embossing powder and trimmed it down to a thin strip.

The pieces went together really quickly once I had everything together. I layered the die cut rectangle onto black cardstock then onto white and then onto some SSS dark grey cardstock.

Then I placed the main image onto the left side of the main card panel and layered the black sentiment strip over it after trimming it and creating an angled banner end with scissors.

I layered the two die cut words, Mom using some Ranger Multi Medium Matte Adhesive and adhered it below the sentiment strip.

Three sequins from Lucy's cards finish the card front.

I finished the inside with a strip of the watercolor printed paper and a fun sentiment by Two Lips Stamp Company called Say Out Loud.

Happy Birthday To You

A seriously quick but cool card for today. I used two dies to create the entire card, a little bit of patterned paper, 3/4 of a sheet of card stock, some foam mounting tape, a piece of acetate and a pinch or two of two different sequin and seed bead mixes. Now that I type that out, maybe the list of supplies seems a little bigger than I originally thought.

I was aiming for masculine but I guess by adding sequins in the shaker it makes it sparkle a little much for some guys. 

I used the MFT Happy Birthday To You die and the A Muse Studio Tag Bundle pinked edge rectangle die. A piece of MFT paper backs the main panel. 3M foam tape bundled up around the edges of the words create a pocket for the sequins and seed beads. Acetate keeps all of it from falling out the holes where the words are (because that would suck!) 

I replaced the letters without adhesive to use as place holders while I put the centers of the letters back in using liquid adhesive. Like on the O and B... etc... 

I think it turned out fun. Thoughts?

Hey Cupcake

Hey Cupcake!

I wanted to focus this blog post on making two entirely different cards from the same stamp set, using the same papers. Is that even possible? ABSOLUTELY! Stamping is super versatile and you can really show your personal style through your own card making. 

I made two cards using the stamp set Hey Cupcake. I've had this set for a few years and it is still available in the inspiration guide.  

I used the same papers, mermaid small dot, kraft and sugar. I used the same markers, one used much simpler coloring  than the other. I used the same die. And actually used what many would discard to create the card above. 

This is the hey cupcake stamp set from A Muse Studio. There are 11 cling mount stamps inside a cd type case.

To create this cute card, I first die cut the sugar card stock with the stitched edge die from the Tag Bundle die set. The kraft was the outside frame left over from die cutting the pinked edge die panel for the second card I will show at the end of this blog post. On the sugar panel I stamped the frosting in Bubblegum pigment ink.

Then I stamped the outlined image on some scrap paper and cut it out to use as a mask to cover this cute sugary confection.

See, I really used scrap paper, there are all sorts of things on this paper. It just sits on there, no need for sticky anything since I was stamping straight down and there wasn't going to be any ink blending or anything like that.

This is one of the great things about A Muse Studio stamps. That image is printed right on the cling foam. No sticker or label, it is printed right on there. So, now I get the freedom a clear stamp would offer but that crisp image from a rubber image.

Once I had the cupcake stamped I was able to remove the mask and color the image.

I wanted to keep it super simple so I didn't even do any shading. Just one color for the cupcake and another for the wrapper. I stamped a sentiment from the set in Versafine Onyx Black ink and the main panel was complete.

I set the main panel aside and created the card base. I cut a single sheet of Mermaid polka dot card stock in half lengthwise. I was able to create two top folding cards. TIP: One trick with white core card stock is to crease and fold your card stock the white side out first. Use your bone folder to make a super crisp fold. 

 Then fold it the opposite way. No breaking of the paper fibers, no wonky fold lines, just a crisp clean fold.

After creating the card base, it was time to assemble. I gathered all the pieces I would need. The left over frame from cutting a kraft panel for card number two, the card base, and the card front main panel. 

I used Tombow Mono Multi Adhesive to adhere the layers together. Then stamped some cuteness on the inside. A simple Happy Birthday finishes off the inside of the card.

For the second card made with the same supplies:

I used the center from the pinked die cut as the main panel. I stamped the cupcake, frosting and cherry onto sugar card stock and colored them with Copic markers. I fussy cut them, used a Tombow N55 marker to color the edges of the white card stock for a more finished look and stamped the sentiment.
